Our mission is to enhance the quality of life of older people in the borough of Slough and to help make later life a rewarding and enjoyable time. Founded in 1979, Age Concern Slough and Berkshire East is an independent registered charity (number 1079949) which is supported by the time, efforts and contributions of local people and organisations.

Age Concern Slough and Berkshire East

ACSABE exists to maintain and improve the quality of life for older people in Slough and Berkshire East by being active in facilitating their independence.

Our strategic aims are to :

Promote equality of opportunity for older people and challenge discriminatory practice

Be politically independent and well resourced (without being reliant on any single source)

Work in partnership with statutory and voluntary organisations to influence policy at local and regional levels

Consolidate current good practice and develop professional, innovative activities which provide value for money and facilitate the independence of older people.

What we do :

Influence : ACSABE promotes awareness, educates and influences decisions affecting older people. Through information, advice, advocacy, campaigning and, importantly through knowledge, we continue to help older people and their cares to become more influential.

Research : ACSABE uses new research, including the 2001 Census and the Joseph Rowntree Survey 2002, to help shape services. We monitor take up and users’ views across our services.

Quality Services : A strength of ACSABE is our flexible approach to people and businesses so we can expand and develop priority services according to the needs of older people.

Resource Management : We ensure that we have the staff, environment and equipment to deliver our objectives in a safe, efficient and economic manner.

Equalities : ACSABE automatically considers race equality in all that we do. Directors, staff and volunteers have access to Equal opportunities training. We continue to improve access to our services for Black Minority Ethnic older people.

Partnership : We reach out to the community and work in partnership to meet the needs of older people. We fulfil representative functions by being actively involved in service planning forums and policy making groups.

Income Generation : We seek to maximise unrestricted income to enable ACSABE to be more independent and provide services which older people request but do not attract funding from other agencies.
