Volunteers enable Age Concern Barking and Dagenham to provide more services to older people
Age Concern Barking and Dagenham welcomes volunteers of all ages and from all walks of life to assist with the various services provided for the elderly and frail in the Borough of Barking and Dagenham.
- Have you 2-4 hours availability on a regular basis?
- Are you a good listener?
- Do you have practical skills?
- Do you enjoy helping others?
By volunteering you can contribute your own life skills and:-
- Meet new people
- Learn new skills
- Make new friends
- Become more confident
- Learn about your community
- Have fun
- Gain new interests
In addition we can offer:
- In-house support
- Training as necessary
- Regular opportunities to meet with other volunteers
- Opportunities to join in team events

What is the process?
- You will be invited to come and meet the Volunteer Co-ordinator to discuss your interests, availability and to match your skills.
- There is an application form to fill in relating to your personal details (we are happy to help with the form filling)Two references will be required either from friends, ex-work colleagues or any other professional who knows you (for 2+ years) but not family.
- An enhanced check will be necessary with the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB)
You will be invited to complete an induction programme to meet Age Concern staff and find out about the services Age Concern provide. - You will receive the support necessary to undertake the tasks required.

Volunteering with Age Concern is about helping many elderly people both frail and active. There are many ways in which you can help, both with your own experiences or by learning new skills. Volunteering has its own rewards.
Volunteering with Age Concern Barking and Dagenham opens new doors for people of all ages. It can be both rewarding and you can get so much out of your life.
Whether you are looking to gain work experience or have time on your hands whilst child rearing, shift working or are retired we can utilise both your skills and life experiences.
