Mission

To enable older people to maintain their dignity, independence and choice through the provision of accessible, flexible and good quality services, ensuring a better quality of life in a safe supported environment.

Background

Originally known as Old People’s Welfare the organisation was set up in 1948. In 1999 we changed our name to Age Concern and became a federation member of Age Concern England.

We are a vibrant and dynamic organisation who has grown substantially over the last eight years. With a turnover of £2.4m, a staff workforce of 118 and volunteer base of over 120 we have become leading providers of older people’s services in the Borough and one of the largest Age Concerns in London.

We are an independent charity, which supports and campaigns for older people and provides a wide range of services tailored to meet individual needs. In addition, we have a trading division selling a range of products and holidays, with surpluses used to support the charity.

We are continually planning and looking ahead to ensure future sustainability. With an entrepreneurial approach we have established social enterprise businesses, particularly where there are gaps in the market.
